Wayne Rooney, the current Plymouth Argyle manager, has been handed a one-match touchline ban and fined £5,500 by the Football Association for misconduct during Plymouth’s 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Championship earlier this month. The incident occurred during a heated moment in the match when Blackburn equalized in the 86th minute, which Rooney and his players felt was controversial. Rooney allegedly insulted the fourth official, which led to his dismissal by referee James Linington.
Despite being sent off, Rooney returned to the pitch after Plymouth secured a dramatic 97th-minute winner by Morgan Whitaker. His actions after the red card, including reappearing on the pitch, contributed to his punishment. The FA stated that his behavior around the 87th minute was improper, and his conduct following the dismissal, including abusive language and re-entering the field, was deemed unacceptable.
Rooney has been managing Plymouth Argyle since May, and they currently sit 14th in the Championship standings. Their next match is against Cardiff City.
