Saud Shakeel, Pakistan’s only batter in the ICC’s top 10 Test rankings, recently slipped in position in the latest update. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced these rankings, showing Saud’s standing falling by two places from his previous rank.
Pakistan hasn’t played a Test series since their 2-1 win over England, allowing other players to move up in the rankings. With this downtime, some players took advantage and surpassed Saud in the list. The left-handed batter, who was previously ranked higher, now holds the 9th position. He currently sits just above Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, who is ranked 10th.
The rankings also saw changes as India’s Rishabh Pant and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell made significant gains, thanks to their performances in the last two Tests of their recent series. Both players advanced, using the opportunity created by Saud’s temporary absence from Test matches.
Other Pakistani players saw positive changes in their rankings as well. Babar Azam moved up to 17th, Salman Agha climbed to 19th, and Mohammad Rizwan rose to 20th. Each of them advanced due to solid performances in their recent games.
Saud and his teammates will soon have a chance to improve their positions further, as Pakistan is set to play an upcoming Test series against South Africa.
