Napoli strengthened their hold on the Serie A lead with a decisive 2-0 win over Milan, moving seven points clear at the top of the table. After ten games, they’re only one point behind the pace they set in their title-winning season in 2022/23.
Milan, coming off a week’s rest due to a postponed game, seemed ready for a strong start, but it was Napoli who struck first. Romelu Lukaku, just five minutes in, powered past Strahinja Pavlovic and finished confidently to put the visitors ahead.
With Napoli leading, Milan tried to push back as Yunus Musah shot wide, and Samuel Chukwueze forced Alex Meret into an impressive save from distance. Despite Milan’s efforts, Napoli held firm and began pressing for a second goal as halftime approached. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then delivered, cutting in from the left to send a powerful shot into the bottom corner, doubling Napoli’s advantage.
Milan’s hopes briefly rose when Alvaro Morata headed in a Chukwueze cross just after the break, but VAR overturned the goal for offside. Napoli’s midfield soon took control, managing possession well and closing down Milan’s advances.
Antonio Conte’s team not only showcased their finishing ability but also put in a solid defensive display, with Meret making a critical save against Rafael Leao’s late attempt. This win marked Napoli’s third consecutive away clean sheet, keeping them in control of Serie A while Milan’s hopes of European qualification took a hit.
