Midfielder George Dobson signs for Wrexham

Midfielder George Dobson signs for Wrexham.

Wrexham secured the signing of midfielder George Dobson on a three-year contract. The 26-year-old, previously captain of Charlton Athletic, opted for a change of scenery this summer. Though initially expected to join Hungarian outfit Fehérvár, personal reasons led Dobson to reconsider.

This reunion with Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is a familiar connection, as the two previously worked together at Sunderland.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” Dobson said. “Wrexham is the most sought-after club in the EFL right now, and the chance to join was incredibly exciting. Speaking with the manager and seeing his interest solidified it for me. I can’t wait to meet the supporters and contribute to the ongoing success of the club. We’re in for a great season.”

Dobson’s Early Career Journey

Dobson started his youth training at both Arsenal and West Ham. He then ventured abroad to Sparta Rotterdam before returning to Walsall, where he had already played on loan. In July 2019, he transferred to Sunderland for an undisclosed fee. After a loan stint at AFC Wimbledon in 2021, he landed at Charlton.

Charlton Captain and Leader

Dobson’s impressive 2021-22 season at Charlton earned him Player of the Year honors and a captaincy role for the following season.

Manager Praises Dobson’s Qualities

Charlton manager Parkinson expressed his delight at signing Dobson, highlighting his development as a player and their prior knowledge of him. He praised Dobson’s strong personality, leadership qualities, and experience as a captain, emphasizing their importance for the team.
