Haryana Cricket Team History

In the cricketing annals, Haryana made its debut at the first-class level during the 1970–71 Ranji Trophy under the leadership of Ravinder Chadha, who commanded the team for a remarkable 18 seasons. Their initial triumph came when Chadha notched up their first century and also claimed nine wickets in their second match.

Haryana has contested in two Ranji Trophy finals. The inaugural encounter in 1986, facing Delhi, ended in a resounding defeat. Opting to bat first, the Haryana squad, captained by Kapil Dev, was bundled out for 288. Delhi responded with a formidable 638, subsequently dismissing Haryana for 209, with Maninder Singh scalping eight wickets.

Their subsequent final appearance in 1991 pitted them against a seasoned Mumbai squad boasting luminaries like Sachin Tendulkar, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Lalchand Rajput. Riding on the stellar performances of Chetan Sharma with the ball and Amarjit Kaypee with the bat, Haryana, under Kapil Dev’s leadership, clinched victory by a mere two runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This triumph earned them a coveted spot in the Irani Trophy, where they faced a formidable Rest of India side featuring stalwarts like Sourav Ganguly, Javagal Srinath, Maninder Singh, and Vinod Kambli. Haryana emerged victorious by four wickets after being set a target of 204 at the Nahar Singh Stadium in Faridabad.

As of mid-January 2023, Haryana’s first-class journey comprised 330 matches, boasting 114 victories, 87 losses, and 129 draws.
