Five time winner Cameroon and 2019 Champion Algeria secure their places at Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco after both won their qualifying on Monday night
Cameroon secured a 1-0 victory over Kenya, with Boris Enow scoring the only goal of the match in neutral Kampala.
Enow struck a low free kick from just outside the box, helping Cameroon dominate the game despite the absence of their federation president, Samuel Eto’o, who is serving a six-month stadium ban imposed by FIFA. This win brings Cameroon to 10 points from four matches, guaranteeing them a top-two finish in their group and a spot in the 24-team finals.
Algeria also claimed victory, achieving a perfect 12 points from four games after Ramy Bensebaini converted a penalty in the 18th minute against Togo in Lome. Although Algeria took the lead, they faced intense pressure from their opponents, who created enough chances to potentially change the outcome.
With these results, Cameroon and Algeria join the hosts and Burkina Faso as the four teams confirmed for the finals. In other matches, Zimbabwe solidified their position in their group with a 3-1 win over Namibia in neutral Johannesburg, moving to eight points and four ahead of third-placed Kenya. Walter Musona scored twice, including one from the penalty spot, while Prince Dube also found the net.
Equatorial Guinea is five points clear in second place in their pool following a 2-1 win over Liberia in Monrovia. Luis Asue put them ahead early, but William Gibson equalized for the hosts. Just as it seemed the match would end in a draw, Dorian Hanza scored a dramatic 94th-minute winner.
In Gambia’s 1-0 victory over Madagascar, Musa Barrow netted the decisive goal after missing a penalty earlier in the match. This victory puts Gambia in second place in their group, ahead of Comoros on head-to-head record, although they have played one match more.
Mozambique climbed to the top of their pool with a convincing 3-0 win over Eswatini in Nelspruit, with their first goal scored by 40-year-old winger Domingues. They now sit five points clear of third-placed Guinea-Bissau, who will host Mali on Tuesday.
