For the first time in over 40 years, the Australian Ashes summer will not begin at the Gabba. Instead, the 2025-26 Ashes series will kick off at Perth Stadium, which is set to host its first-ever Ashes Test. Cricket Australia announced that the series will begin with this historic encounter against England on November 21, 2024.
Perth Stadium will become the eighth Australian venue to host an Ashes match. England has a poor track record in Perth, winning only one Ashes Test in the city. After the first Test, the series will move to The Gabba in Brisbane, where a day-night Test will be held starting December 4. This will mark Brisbane’s third day-night men’s Test, following previous matches against Pakistan in 2016 and Sri Lanka in 2019.
The third Test will be played at the Adelaide Oval, and the traditional Boxing Day Test will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The series will conclude with the New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
