Afro-Asia Cup Could Finally See Kohli and Babar in the Same Team

Cricket fans may soon witness two of the world’s most celebrated players competing on the same team, as the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) recently announced plans to bring back the Afro-Asia Cup. This legendary series would see a top team from Africa compete against a team of elite players from Asia in thrilling white-ball matches.

The decision was made at the ACA’s Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, where a newly formed six-member interim committee was tasked with revamping the ACA’s activities to boost competitive cricket across the African continent. One of their primary goals is to strengthen partnerships with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), and the revival of the Afro-Asia Cup is high on their priority list.

The Afro-Asia Cup has only taken place twice before, in 2005 and 2007, with a planned 2009 edition canceled. Now, nearly two decades later, there is renewed excitement around its potential return.

If the tournament does go ahead, it would provide a rare opportunity for players from India and Pakistan to unite on the same team under the Asia XI banner. Political challenges have limited direct cricket competition between these two nations, making this event even more significant. While the ACC has not yet confirmed its involvement, historical records reveal that Asia XI had a dominant performance in the last series, winning all three matches in 2007.

Past tournaments have included legendary cricketers like Inzamam-ul-Haq, MS Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar, which added to the event’s prestige and excitement. This time, cricket fans might see superstars like Babar Azam and Virat Kohli playing together—a prospect that is sure to create an electrifying atmosphere across the cricketing world.
